I have over twenty years experience as a therapist. I have worked in a variety of settings, helping people with many different types of difficulties. Anxiety has been a common thread running through the types of problems I have helped people with.
In addition to my counseling experience, I worked for seven years as a social worker with disabled children and adults, and their families. I also have worked in middle management positions, and been a clinical supervisor for intern therapists in training.
On a Personal Note...
I have personally used various stress reduction, guided imagery, and meditation practices over a twenty year period. Research shows that this type of personal practice of a therapist is beneficial to their work with clients.
I am somewhat of a newcomer to the Westside. I grew up inland, in the San Gabriel Valley. I love walking in nature, which seems to be infiltrating my blogs on anxiety relief. When living inland, I was fond of walking in the foothills and canyons, and at the Arboretum. Now I have the ocean and the birds of the wetlands to fill my heart with inspiration and joy.
Besides the study of psychology, I have had a long time interest in learning about the religions of the world. I am awed by the universal truths and inspiration found in all of them. If clients bring up religion or spirituality as an area of concern, I support them in wherever their exploration leads them. I have the utmost respect for the religious and spiritual views of all, including those who want to stick with secular answers to life's challenges.
I became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in 1985, after completing a Master of Science Degree in Psychology and 3,000 hours of supervised experience. I am a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT).
