Over my twenty plus years as a therapist, I have worked in a variety of settings, helping people with many different types of difficulties.
Anxiety has been a common thread running through the types of problems I have helped people with.
In addition to my counseling experience, I worked for seven years as a social worker with disabled children and adults, and their families.
I have also worked in middle management, and as a supervisor of counselors and interns in training.
On a Personal Note...
Various anxiety reduction, guided imagery, and meditation practices have been a regular part of my life over a twenty year period. Research shows that this type of personal practice of a therapist is beneficial to their work with clients. It adds to their sense of "presence" or being focused.
I love walking in nature, and recommend it as a way to reduce stress and anxiety. In my experience, even a short walk outdoors, paying attention to trees, birds, butterflies, or any other aspect of nature, is a healing balm.
I am a strong believer in religious and spiritual freedom. In my opinion, all the religions of the world have something of value. At the same time, there are many people who feel hurt by their religion.
In my therapy practice, you can feel free to explore issues of religion and spirituality as they affect your life. Be assured that I will not try to impose any particular religious belief on you.
I have the utmost respect for the philosophical and spiritual views of all, including those who want to stick with secular answers to life's challenges.
My Committment to Excellence
Here are some of the ways I express my commitment to excellence:
Regularly taking continuing education courses to stay up to date.
Regular participation in a case consultation group, where I voluntarily submit myself to peer review and feedback from my colleagues. This group is for therapists who focus on helping people with anxiety disorders and panic attacks.
